  1. Rainbow Rowell and Margaret Atwood made my list too. I highly recommend The Handmaid's Tale by Atwood, so thought provoking, scary, and well written.

    1. I've heard brilliant things about The Handmaid's Tale! :) I think the next book of hers I'm going to read is Alias Grace, and then I'm finally going to get my hands on a copy of The Handmaid's Tale. :D

  2. I forgot about Margaret Atwood - oops! That would have made my list look waaay more intelligent, heh. I've only read The Handmaid's Tale by her, which I thought was incredible. Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

  3. I've only read Rainbow Rowell's books, but I really recommend both Fangirl, and Eleanor & Park. They're great. I also want to read something from Margaret Atwood, but I've to check out the rest of the authors on your list as well. Great list, and thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier. :)

    1. I've got a copy of Fangirl, but I have to admit I'd really like to read Eleanor & Park next. :) I really enjoyed The Penelopiad - it's a really quick read if you're looking to introduce yourself to Atwood's work!

  6. The only author I've read from your list is Margret Atwood and that was her book The Penelopiad (sp?) it was wonderful and I am a fan of some of her short stories. I'm really looking forward to reading Geraldine Brookes sometime.

  7. Margaret Atwood! You should read The Handmaid's Tale. I know everyone will recommend that, but there is good reason! I love Rainbow Rowell's writing style. I have yet to read Landline, but own the rest of her books. They are so easy to sink into!

  10. What a great list! Howl's Moving Castle is my favourite from Diana Wynne Jones, but I also really liked Charmed Life, so I recommend that next!

I just finished reading Carmilla, which I really enjoyed. And look, we have the same book from Rainbow Rowell on our list! From Shirley Jackson, I loved The Haunting of Hill House, and have also read We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but didn't like it quite as much. Her writing style is so captivating, and I want to read more from her. And I haven't read any Atwood yet, which I really need to correct!

    1. Oo great, I have a copy of Charmed Life - thanks for the recommendation! :)

Carmilla's fantastic, isn't it? Doesn't it just have one of the most haunting last lines ever? I've heard a lot of praise for We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but I think I'd like to check out some of her short fiction before I dive into another one of her novels. ^__^ Well I really enjoyed The Penelopiad, so I recommend it! In fact a friend of mine and I are planning on reading Alias Grace together a little later this year, you'd be welcome to join us if you want to read some Atwood! :D

  11. I've also only read one book by Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale. It was a difficult topic to read about but a great book. Oh and I can recommend Collins' The Woman in White! That and The Moonstone are the only ones of his that I've read though.
I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I've owned Howl's Moving Castle for about a year and still haven't read it >.< I don't know what's keeping me from it.

Thanks for stopping by! Cool to meet another person who loved The Gargoyle :)

    1. Yeah I really need to read The Handmaid's Tale, but I think the fact that it's been so highly recommended to me for years is what's scaring me off reading it - I'm afraid to read it just in case I don't like it! I will definitely read at some point, though, but I think I'm going to read Alias Grace first. :) I have a copy of The Woman in White, but it's a beast of a book so it might be a little while before I read it!

Haha, no need to feel embarrassed - there are books on my shelves I've owned for years that still haven't been read, but I like to tell myself I'm just building up my own personal library. ;)

It's always great to meet a fellow fan of The Gargoyle. :D
