Today I've compiled a list of ten high fantasy books that are currently on my TBR list and need to be ticked off soon. I've decided to stay away from Tolkien, Martin, Pierce and Le Guin - hopefully you might find something here you haven't heard of before if I stay away from the obvious choices!
I've also decided to stay from any series continuations or authors I've already read, so all ten of these books are the first in a series and are all by authors I have yet to read.

I really recommend the Mistborn trilogy! It's one of the best fantasy series I've read - Brandon Sanderson writes some seriously unique magic systems! Eon is fantastic as well. I have The Emperor's Blades and Falling Kingdoms both on my TBR list as I'm trying to read more high fantasy. Lately, I've really enjoyed the Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. And I can't wait for Clariel, Garth Nix's next book!

ReplyDeleteI think my sister may have given my the wrong first book in Mistborn by accident....which would explain why I didn't like it and felt totally lost. Hmmmmm. Also, I know you wanted to stay away from Martin, but I'm about halfway through A Game of Thrones right now, and I have to say I'm pleased that it is totally living up to the hype for me.
And re: Emma: What, what?! Garth Nix is releasing another book that vaguely rhymes with Sabriel???? *runs away flailing to go look at it*
